How to Use the Decoder

The seven clues given on Wednesdays and Saturdays are numbered 1–7 and have seven corresponding colors, shown above. The answer to each puzzle should have provided you a four-digit number, totaling 28 digits altogether. For example, Question #1, issued on July 1, has a yellow highlighted box in which you place your four-digit answer. Transfer those four digits to the yellow box above, placing one number in each of the four spaces provided next to “Numerical Answer.” When entering numbers, ignore all black dots (•) that occur between some spaces. These divide the puzzle into words and do not pertain to the numbers you are entering.

Once all 28 numerical answer spaces have been filled, move to “Cipher Choices.” The Cipher List Sheet contains six ciphers labeled Cipher A–Cipher F. These ciphers transform your numerical answers into “Alpha Final Answers.” For each color, you are given two possible ciphers. Choose the correct one and words will appear. Follow the same step for all seven puzzles to learn where to find your first location. Proceed to the location, and the race has begun!

Time to cheat!—At 8:00 a.m., I will open DMs on both Discord and Facebook and respond to questions in the order in which they are received. (Discord messages are prioritized as they are received instantaneously, while Facebook messages are delayed due to Facebook’s spam filter. Please join our Discord server before Saturday morning. Link in Comments.) Participants are allowed to choose between one of the two following options:

  1. Free Answer—I will give you the correct answer to any one of the seven clues you have already received.
  2. Identify Incorrect Answers—I will look at all seven of your solutions and identify all incorrect answers, but will offer no assistance in solving.
9:30 a.m.

Time to decode!—At 9:30 a.m., I will post on both Discord and Facebook the cipher list and the cipher decoder. You will place all seven clue answers into the cipher decoder and use the cipher list to identify where to begin the hunt. (More instructions on the cipher decoder.)

10:00 a.m.

The race is on!—At 10:00 a.m., after decoding the cipher, you will know the first stop’s location. Once you arrive, proceed to the counter and ask, “Is this the location for the Scavenger Hunt?” If he/she says, “Yes,” you will be read a question/riddle to solve. Once you answer correctly, the business partner will hand you an envelope. Inside the envelope will be a puzzle that reveals your next location. (YOU MUST RETURN TO YOUR VEHICLE TO SOLVE THIS PUZZLE. We do not want to interrupt the normal flow of business. Please respect our sponsor partners.) Once solved, proceed to the next location, and repeat the above process. There are five locations in total to win the prize. Prizes will be awarded to the top five finishers. If, at any point, you are stumped, do not give up. Contact me via Discord or Facebook for assistance. The race concludes for all contestants at 2:00 p.m.
